are the reasons of people falling into the Hell.

(According to Sanatan Dharma, if a person leads a pious and virtuous
lifestyle, he earns certain plus points called 'Punya' , which entitle him
a place in the Heaven after his death. On  the other hand if he leads a life
full of fraud, deceit and ingratitude, he will certainly fall into the Hell.
This Subhgashita deals with this aspect of life.)

should not have in him. This Subhashita exhorts that anger should be controlled
by being compassionate, greed by being satisfied at one's lot, laziness by being
alert, and indecision by firm resolve.)

and illustrious persons even ordinary persons shine in their
reflected glory.)

be studded with jewels, and both its wings decorated with pearls found
in the skulls of elephants, the crow will still remain a crowe and can not
be equated with a magnificent Swan.

basic inborn qualities.  Merely by outwardly decoration one can not become
great.)

(In Sanskrit literature  there are many fables which deal with
various aspects of human behaviour, one of which is known as
'Kaakataleeya nyaya' . This fable is about a  traveler who was
sitting below a palm tree.  While a crow was flying from the top
of the tree, simultaneously one ripe palm fruit fell down. As such
things happen unexpectedly, the traveler mistakenly construed it
as a single act.)

others, and nobody is free from addictions and can not enjoy perpetual
happiness and comfort.

(By framing questions as above the  author of this Subhashita  wants
to assert that nobody exists in this world whose family dynasty is free
from any defects and diseases as also various addictions  and enjoys

person is expert in various skills, such skills are always very
helpful to him during any adverse situation .)

ghosts and other supernatural creatures subordinate to Lord Shiva.

i.e.    Although poetry is composed by all and sundry learned
men, but the best poetry is composed by most learned and famous
poets. Likewise, ordinary men and even supernatural spirits and
ghosts subordinate to Lord Shiva indulge in dancing, but the real
cosmic dance is done by Lord Shiva himself.

(Pinaaka is the name of the bow of Lord Shiva. That is why he is
also called as Pinaakpani i.e. one who holds Pinaak;   Poetry and
dancing are the two very common forms of artistic expression.
The idea behind this Subhashita is that poetry by great sages and
learned scholars are the best and so also the cosmic dance of Lord
Shiva, who is also called as "Natraaj" i.e. King of Dancers.)

( By asking questions in this Subhashita, what the author wants to
establish that the reaction of the  poets, crows, wanton women and
drunkards is unpredictable .  Poets are very far sighted, crows are
omnivorous,  and the behaviour of wanton women and drunkards is
always unpredictable.)

country) is from a renowned dynasty and is endowed with
excellent moral character, expert in diplomacy, religion etc.,
then  only he is venerated  by the citizens and  his fame  is
widespread.

(In this Subhashita indirectly the pre-requisites of a competent
ruler have been described.  Unfortunately , now a days these
qualities are mostly absent in the rulers, as a result of which
there is widespread anarchy in many countries of the world.

Bheeshma, who by associating himself  with the evil minded
Prince Duryodhana had to participate in stealing a herd of cows.

(Here an episode of the epic Maharabhata is refereed to, wherein
Duryodhana steals a herd of cows belonging to King Virat, in the
presence of Bheeshma, which was like a blot  in his illustrious career.)
