the  harsh words spoken to them and do not react, whereas
listen to those attentively who speak to them politely. )

of embellishing elements of poetry like metaphors, similes etc.
to attract the attention of its readers.

(This Subhashita emphasises the importance of  attracting  the
attention of people  for promoting a book on poetry and literature.)

person by uttering expletives and harsh words from his mouth
for getting his work done, which hurts persons coming into his
contact. Salutations to both of them.

( In the process of removing chaff from the grain the wooden
pestle  is repeatedly pounded over the grain. Similarly wicked
people also resort to expletives and harsh words for getting their
work done. This has been used as a simile in this Subhashita.)

hesitate to terrorise them.

(In Astrology the Planets Sun, Mars, Saturn,,Dragon's head and
Dragon's tail are termed as evil Planets and it is said that during
their 'Dasha' (period)  according to the  horoscope of a person,
they torment him in various ways.     To appease them there is a
provision of worshipping them and wearing various gems.    By
using  this as a simile  the author has highlighted  the  nature and
habit of wicked persons of harming others without any cause.)

they are not immortal and they should not involve themselves in
worldly matters so much that they forget religiousness and their
duty towards mankind.)

for a real friend who unhesitatingly renders help at the time of any
calamity.)

clothes, what harm will be done to you if you also wear the
sacred thread and keep a tuft of hairs on the crown of your
head  ?

(This subhashita criticizes those persons who avoid wearing the
symbols of Sanatana Dharma in spite of being its followers. Now

the relatives is the high social status of the groom's family,
whereas other acquaintances desire only a good reception and
a nice dinner at the time of the marriage.

courage, not indulging in theft, body hygiene, control over sensory
organs, intelligence, learning, truthfulness, being cool headed i.e.not
being angry).
