To day's Subhashit

पुस्तकस्तु तथा विद्या पर हस्त गतं धनं
कार्यकाले समुत्पन्ने  न  सा  विद्या न  त द्धनम्

Pustakastu tatha vidyaa par hasta gatam dhanam
Kaaryakale samutpanne na saa vidya na taddhanam

i.e.    If one lets out his books and money to others,  at the time of his own need for these things he neither gets back the books  nor his money.

  1. Mohan Ji! Thank you very much for these blogs. I was just curious if the translation in English you posted above is the meaning of the Sanskrit sloka above or your interpretation. I remember good 37 years ago or so, I studied Sukti Rantanivali in High School and my, may be wrong, recollection is that this sloka meant the following:

Knowledge in the books are like wealth in others' hands; when time comes, neither the books nor others' wealth will come to any use; lesson: Read and internalize the knowledge off the book.

Could you please help me stand corrected?

    Best regards.
