To day's Subhashit.

शतेषु जायते शूरः सहस्त्रेषु च पण्डितः
वक्ता दस सहस्त्रेषु दाता भवति वा न वा

Shateshu jaayate shoorah sahastreshu cha panditah,
vaktaa das sahastreshu daata bhawati waa na waa.

i.e.   Among one hundred persons only one person happens to be brave . Similarly among one thousand persons only one person  can be found to be a Scholar, and among ten thousand persons only one person happens to be an orator.  But rarely a generous and charitable person can be found among thousands of persons.

Shata= One hundred in number.     Shateshu = among one hundred.        Jaayate = happens to be.
Sahastra = One thousand.      Sahastreshu = among one thousand.      Pandit = a Scholar.
Vaktaa =  a learned person who is also an accomplished orator. Orator is a person well versed in the art of public speaking with power to touch the feelings of the audience and persuade them.
Das Sahastreshu = among ten thousand..       Bhawati = happens.      waa  = or.       naa = not.
Bhawati wa a naa bhawati =  rarely happens
Daata = A generous and charitable person who helps others in cash or kind without being asked for. 'Daan' is the process of giving in the aforesaid manner and a person who does this is called a 'Daata'.
