अधनेनार्थकामेन नार्थः शक्यो विवित्सता |
अर्थेरर्था निबध्यन्ते गजेरिवमहागजाः ||
अर्थ - एक निर्धन व्यक्ति धन संपत्ति अर्जित करने में असफल होने पर भी धनवान होने की इच्छा का त्याग नहीं कर पाता है और स्वयं को इस इच्छा से बंधा हुआ पाता है और उसकी स्थिति उन छोटे पालतू हाथियों के समान हो जाती है जिन की सहायता से जंगलों में स्वतन्त्र विचरण करने वाले बडे गजराज पकड् कर पालतू बनाये जाते हैं , अर्थात वे स्वयं तो धनी नहीं बन पाते हैं पर दूसरों को धनी बनाने में अवश्य सहायक हो जाते हैं |

Artherarthaa nibadhyante gajerivamahaagagaah.
Adhanenaarthakaamena = adhanena + artha+ kaamena, Adhanena = a poor person.
Artha = wealth, money. kaamena = desire to acquire (wealth). Naartha = na+ artha.
Na = not/ Shakyo = ablr, possible. Vivitsataa = wish to acquire. Artherarthaa =
artheh + arthaa. Arthaih = by means of wealth. Arthaa = various types of wealth.
Nibadhyante = constructed, created, bound, chained. Gajairivamahaagajaah = Gajaih +
iva+ mahaagajaah. Gajaih = elephants. Iva = like. Mahagajaah = more powerful
elephants (tuskars).
i.e. A poor person is not able to relinquish his desire to become a rich person inspite of failing in his attempts to do so and remains bound to it. His position is just like the domesticated and chained elephants, who are used for capturing a big wild elephants roaming freely in forests i.e. he becomes a tool for others to become rich.
