अप्रत्यक्षाणि शास्त्राणि विवादस्तत्र केवलं |
प्रत्यक्षं ज्योतिषं शास्त्रं चन्द्रार्को यत्र साक्षिणौ ||
अर्थ - शास्त्रों की केवल उन्हीं विधाओं में विवाद और मतान्तर होता है जिन में
निर्णय स्पष्ट और प्रामाणिक नहीं होते हैं | परन्त ज्योतिष शास्त्र ऐसा नहीं है क्यों
कि उसके निर्णयों की प्रामाणिकता के साक्षी (गवाह) स्वयं चन्द्रमा और सूर्य हैं |
Apratyakshaani shaastraani vivaadastatra kevalam.
Pratyaksham jyotisham shaastram chandraarko yatra saakshinau .
Apratyakshaani = imperceptible, invisible. Shaastraani = various disciplines
of learning. Vivaadastra = vivaadah + tatra. Vivaad = contradiction, dispute
with or about some thing. Tatra = there. Kevalam = only. Pratyaksham =
present before the eyes, real. Jyotisham = Astronomy. Chandraarko =
Chandra +arko. Chandra = the Moon. Arko = the Sun. Yatra = where.
Saakshinah = witnesses.
i.e. Contradictions and disputes arise only in the case of those disciplines of
learning where the deductions are not backed by any visible proof. But this is not
so in the case of Astronomy, as the Moon and the Sun are there as witnesses to
the correctness of its deductions.
