एक चक्षुर्विवेको हि द्वितीयं सत्समागमः |
तौ नस्तौ यस्य स क्षिप्रं मोहकूपं पतेद्ध्रुवं || -महासुभषितसंग्रह
भावार्थ - मनुष्य में विवेक (बुरे भले की पहिचान) का होना उसकी
एक आंख के समान है औए सज्जन व्यक्तियों की संगति में रहना
उसकी दूसरी आंखके समान है | जिस व्यक्ति में ये दोनों प्रवृत्तियां
नहीं होती है वह् व्यक्ति निश्चय ही एक अन्धे व्यक्ति के समान होता
है और मोह रूप कुंवें में गिर जाता है |
Ekam chakshurviveko hi dviteeyam sarsamaagamah .
Tau nasto yasya sa kshiparam mohakoopam pated-dhruvam.
Ekam = one Chakshurviveko = Chakshuh +viveko.
Chakshuh = eye. Viveko = visdom, right judgement.
Hi = surely. Dviteeyam = the second. Satsamaagmah =
sat = samaagamah. Sat = venerable perssons. Samagamah =
association with, company. Tau = they. Nastau = nah + tau
nah =not. Yasya = whose. Sa = he. Kshipram = quickly,
immediately. Mohakoopam = moha = koopam. Moah =
infatuation, confusion, perplexity. Koopam = a well.
pated -dhruvam = patet + dhruvam. Patet = will fall into.
Dhruvam = certainly.
i.e. The faculty of taking right decisions is like one eye of a
person and association or keeping the company of venerable
persons is like his another eye A person who does not have
both these faculties, he is like a blind person and will definitely
soon fall into the deep well of infatuation and confusion .
