आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

एकोऽपि सिंहः साहस्रं यूथं  मथ्नाति दन्तिनां  |
तस्मात्सिंहमिवोदारं  आत्मानं वीक्ष्य संपतेत् || -महासुभषितसंग्रह

भावार्थ -    जिस प्रकार एक अकेला सिंह हाथियों के एक बडे समूह
को उथल पुथल  (डरा कर इधर उधर भगा देना) कर देता है  वैसे ही
एक उदार व्यक्ति भी आत्मज्ञान प्राप्त करने  का अवसर पाने पर
विभिन्न प्रलोभनों को देख कर सिंह के समान ही उनके ऊपर टूट पडता
है (और विजयी होता है ) |

Ekopi simhah saahasram yootham mathnaati dantinaam,
Tasmaatsimhamivodaaram aatmaanam veekshya sampatet.

Ekopi = eko +api.    Eko = one.    Api = even.      Simham=
a lion.    Yootham = a herd.   Saahasram = a very large number
Mathnaati = agitates, stirs   Dantinaam =  elephants with tusks.
Tasmaatsimhamivodaaram= Tasmaat +simham+ iva+ udaaram.  
Tasmaat = hence, therefore.  Iva = like.   Udaaram  = generous,
lenient    Aatmaanam =knowing thyself     Veekshya =  look at.
Sampatet = roam about

i.e.           The manner in which a single Lion roams in a  very large
herd of Elephants and scatters them, in the same manner a generous
and righteous person on seeing an opportunity of knowing himself
resists  and overcomes all sorts of worldly temptations (and conquers
them ).
