ऐश्वर्यमदपापिष्ठा मदाः पानमदादयः |
ऐश्वर्यमदमत्तो हि नापपित्वा विबुध्यते || - महसुभाषितसंग्रह (८२०५)
भावार्थ - नीच और दुष्ट तथा अपने ऐश्वर्य और बल के मद में मत्त
व्यक्तियों तथा अन्य विभिन्न पेय मदों (जैसे मदिरा),का सेवन करने वाले
व्यक्तियों की मदमत्तता की तुलना में (जो कुछ समय पश्चात दूर हो
जाती है) ऐश्वर्य का मद निश्चय ही न तो दूर होता है और न वह मदान्ध
व्यक्ति उसका अनुभव करता है |
Aishvaryamadapaapishthaa madaah paanamadaadayah.
Aishvaryamadamattaa hi naapapitvaa vibhudhyate,
Aishvarya = wealth and power. Mada = intoxication, pride.
Paapishthaa = very wicked and bad persons. Madaah = various
types of intoxicants. Paaanamadaadayah = paanamada +aadayah.
various intoxicants which are consumed by drinking like liquor.
Aishvaryamadamattaa = persons drunk by their wealth and power.
Hi = surely, definitely. Naapapitva= na + apapitva. Na = not
Apapitva = turning away, separation. Vibudhyate = become aware
or awake.
i.e. In comparison to the intoxication to the people drunk by consuming
liquid intoxicants (like liquor etc,), which subsides or goes away after
some time, the intoxication caused to mean and wicked people proud
of their wealth and power, surely does not go away, Moreover, such
persons are also unaware that they are power-drunk.
