विद्या मित्रं प्रवासेषु भार्या मित्रं गृहेषु च.
व्यधिस्तौशधं मित्रं धर्मो मित्रं मृतस्य
i.e. Knoweledge and scholarship acts like a friend to a person during his stay in a foreign country,
his wife as a friend in his household , medicine during his illness and his good deeds during his lifetime after his death.
(In Hindu religion it is believed that by doing good deeds during his lifetime a person earns "Punya" -plus points- which enable him to be re-born in an illustrious family and enjoy all good things of life. In Bhagwd Gita it is said that - शुचीनां श्रीमतां गेहे योगभ्रष्टोभिजायते. (shucheenaam shreemataam gehe yogabhrashtobhi jaayate - i.e.those persons who although living a pious life due to some reason are not able to achieve the status of a yogi , during their next birth are born in a rich and illustrious family.)
Vidyaa =Knowelwdge,scholarship. Mitram = friend. Pravaas = stay abroad. Bharyaa = wife.
Graheshu = household. Cha = also. Vyadhi = illness. Aushadh = medicine.
Dharma = Religion (here it means living a religious and pious life.)
Mrutam = after death. Mruta = dead.
