ये पापं शमयन्ति संगतिभृतां ये दान शृङ्गारिणो
येषां चित्तमतीव निर्मलतरं येषां न भग्नवृतं |
ये सर्वान्त्सुखयन्ति हि प्रतिदिनं ते साधवो दुर्लभा :
गंगावद्गजगंडवद्गगनवद्गंगेयवद्गेयवत् ||
Ye paapam shamayanti samgatibhrutaam ye daanshrungaarino.
Yeshaam chittmateeva nirmaltaram yeshaam na bhagnavrutam.
Ye sarvaant sukhyanti hi pritidinam tey saadhwo durlabhaah.
Gangawad gajagandwad gaganawad gangeyawad geyawad.
i.e. Those noble and righteous persons, whose company results in reducing evil from the society, who are adored for their philanthropy, who are extremely kind hearted, who do not deviate from the vows taken by them, and who always strive to make every body happy, are rarely found . They are worshipped and adored like ,the sacred river Ganges, majestic like an elephant,open to all like the Sky and precious like Gold.
Ye = those. Papam = evil . Shamayanti = reduce, remove. Sangatribhrutaam =in the company of, Daan = charity. Shringaarino = adored for. Yeshaam = whose. Chittamateeva = chitta + ateeva . Chitta = mind , heart. ateeva = extremely. Nirmaltaram = pure, unsullied.
Bhagnavrutam = deviated from a vow. Sarvaantsukhiyanti = make every body happy.
Pratidanam = every day, always. Saadhwo = kind and righteous persons. Durlabha = rarely found..
Gangaawad =worshipped like the sacred river Ganges. Gajgandwad = majestic like an elephant. Gaganwad = open to all like the Sky..
Gaangeya = gold. Gaangeywad = precious like Gold.
(Through this Subhashit the author, besides praising noble and righteous persons, has also displayed his scholarship, particularly in the last line of the Shloka which is very complex.)
