ऋणं मित्रान्न कर्तुव्यं न देयं चापि मित्रके |
प्रीतिच्छेदकरी ज्ञेया यस्माद्व्यै ऋणकर्तरी ||
अर्थ - अपने मित्रों से कभी भी ऋण (उधार) नहीं लेना चाहिये और न कभी मित्रों को ऋण देना चाहिये ,
क्योंकि यह सभी जानते हैं कि इन दोनों परिस्थितियों में मित्रता में दरार पैदा हो जाती है |

Preeticchedakaree gyeyaa yasmadvyai rinakartaree.
Rinam = loan, debt. Mitraanna = Mitraam +na. Mitraam = to friends. Na = not.
Kartuvym = to do, incurred. Deyam = given to Chaapi = cha +api, Cha = and, also.
Api = even. Mitrake = to a friend. Preeticchedakaree = preeti + chedakaree.
Preeti = friendship. Chedakaree = causing a split or interruption. Gyeyaa = to be known.
Yasmaadvyai = Yasmat +dvai. Yasmat = since, because. Dvai = two, both.
Rinakartaree = creator of a debt.
i.e. One should never incur a debt from his friends and should also not give loans to them,
because it is very well known that in both the situations it results in creating a rift or split in their friendship.
