अर्थोSप्यनर्थेन चेत्साध्यः का वार्ता धर्मकामयोः |
अर्थः सर्वजगन्मूलः अनर्थोSर्थविपर्ययः ||
अर्थ - धन और संपत्ति का संग्रहण यदि अनुचित साधनों द्वारा किया
गया हो तो फिर धर्म और काम की चर्चा करने का क्या लाभ ? क्यों कि धन ही
इस संसार में सभी क्रियाकलापों का मूल कारक है इस प्रकार अनुचित साधनों से
प्राप्त धन संसार में विपत्ति ही लाता है |
(सनातन धर्म में मानव जीवन के चार अंग धर्म, अर्थ, काम और मोक्ष कहे गये
हैं | पहले तीन अंगों के संतुलित अनुपालन से चौथे अंग की प्राप्ति होती है |
परन्तु इस सुभाषित में व्यङ्ग्यात्मक रूप से कहा गया है कि अनुचित साधनों
के उपयोग से धन अर्जित करने से अधिकांश देशों में आर्थिक संकट उत्पन्न हो
जाता है जैसा कि वर्ष २००७ में विश्व में हुआ था | )

Arthah sarvajaganmoolah anarthorthaviparyayah.
Arthopyanarthena = artho + api + anarthena. Artho = wealth, finance.
Api = even. Anarthena = through unethical means. Chetsaadhyayah =
chet +saadhyah. Chet = if. Saadhyah = acquired, Kaa = what ?
Vaartaa = talk, say. Dharma = Religion Kaamayo = sensuality.
Sarvajaganmoolah = Sarva +jagat +moolah. Sarva = entire.
jagat = world. Moolah = root. Anarthorthaviparyayah = anartho +
artha +viparyayah. Anartho = calamity. Viparyayah = crisis..
i.e. If acquisition of wealth is done even through unethical means,
then of what use is to talk about Dharma (religiosity) and Kama (sensuality) ?
Finance is at the root of all types of activities in this world and if unethical
means are adopted to manage it, it brings financial crisis in the World.
( Hindu Religion divides the lifestyle into four main areas i.e. Dharma, Artha.
Kama and Moksha and seeks a balance of the first three in all activities in
order to achieve the main aim of life i.e. Moksha (salvation). In the above
Subhashita it is mentioned that it is of no use to earn wealth by ignoring
Dharma and Kama, as wealth acquired through unethical means is harmful
for the society and results in financial crisis, as happened during 2007 in the
World, known as the Big Wall Street Crash.)
