Today's Subhashita.

आसीत्पूर्वं विमलजलधौ मण्डनं भूपतीनां
नारीणां च प्रबलमुकुटे  काञ्चनेन प्रसङ्गात  |
तन्त्रीबद्धः कथमिदमहोत्काचखण्डेन सार्धं
भिल्ली कण्ठे मरकतमणे कामवस्थां गतोSसि  ||

अर्थ -     सर्वप्रथम  तुम विशाल समुद्र के अन्दर थी  और तत्पश्चात् तुमने
स्वर्ण के साथ मिल कर राजओं तथा सुन्दर स्त्रियों के मुकुटों  की शोभा
 बढाई |  अरे ओ मरकतमणि  !  अब कांच के टुकडों के साथ एक माला में
 पिरोये जाने के बाद एक भीलनी (आदिवासी स्त्री) के गले मे लटक कर
तुम्हारी यह्  कैसी दुरावस्था हो गयी है ?

(इस सुभाषित में प्रतीकात्मक रूप से यह प्रतिपादित किया गया है कि अच्छे
व्यक्तियों के संसर्ग से कोई व्यक्ति या वस्तु आदर और प्रतिष्ठा पाते है  और
नीच व्यक्तियों और वस्तुओं के संसर्ग में तिरस्कृत होते हैं |

Aaseetpoorvam vimalajaladhau mandanam bhoopateenaam.
Naareenaam cha prabalamukute kaanchanena prasangaat.
Tantreebaddhh kathamidamahotkaachakhandenena saardham,
Bhilleekanthe marakaramane kaamavasthaam gatosi.

Aaseet = existed.   Poorvam = earlier.   Vimala = vast and clear.
Jaladhau = ocean.    Mandanam = decoration.    Bhoopateenaam +
Kings.      Naareenam = women.    Cha = and.    Prabala=dominating.
Mukute = tiara. a crown.    Kaanchanena = gold's.    Prasangaat =
studded with.     Tantreebaddhah = stringed.    katham+idam+mahot+
kaachakhandena,    Katham = say.  Idam = this.    Mahot = many.
Kaachkhandena = pieces of glass.     Saardham = one half.
Bhillee = a tribal woman.    Kanthe = neck.   Marakatamane = emerald
gem.   Kaam+avasthaam.    Kaam = what ?    Avasthaam = condition.
Gatosi = you have gone.

i.e.     In the beginning you were inside the majestic Ocean and afterwards
by being studded with gold in the crowns and tiaras of Kings and beautiful
women, you adorned them.    O Emerald Gem  !  and now in what a poor
state you have befallen by being stringed with ordinary glass beads as a
garland in the neck of a tribal Bhil woman ?

( Through this Subhashita indirectly it has been emphasised that in
association with Honourable persons one gets recognition and respect
which is lost in association lowly people.)
