Today's Subhashita.

Ashtaadasha  Puraaneshu Vyaasasya vachanadvym.
Paropakaar punyaaya paayaaya parapeedanam.

Ashtaadash =  eighteen.          Puraaneshu =  Sanskrit treates in poetry
authored by the great saint poet Vedavyaas.  The most famous among
these is  Mahabharata, the epic about the dynasties of Kauravas and Pandavas.
The famous book Bhagvadgeetaa is also enshrined in this treatise as 18 chapters.
(for details please refer to https//Wikipedia.en.org/wiki/Vyasa.)
Vyasasya = of Vedavyaas.    Vachanadvyam = Vachana + dvyam.
Vachana = statements.     Dvyam = two.      Paropakaar = benevolent deeds
with a view to helping others.     Punyaaya = a virtuous deed.  (In Hindu Religion
if a person does virtuous deeds he earns certain 'plus points' called 'Punya' ,
which entitle him a better life duringf his lifetime as also in his future birth cycle,
whereas if he commits sinful deeds he is consigned to 'Naraka' i.e the Hell.)..
Paapaya = sins,  evil deeds.     Parapeedanam = para +peedanam.    Para = others.
Peeedanam = act of harming and torturing.

i.e.       The essence of the 18 Puranaas authored by the saint poet Vedvyaas
is epitomised in these two statements that by helping others a person earns
'Punya' , and by harming and torturing others he commits 'Paap' (sins).
