Today's Subhashita.

अपि संपूर्णतया युक्तै कर्तव्याः सुहृदो बुधैः  |
नदीशः परिपूर्णोSपि  चन्द्रोदयमपेक्षते        ||

अर्थ -     यद्यपि विद्वान्  और गुणी व्यक्ति अपने कर्तव्यों  का
पालन करने में पूर्णतया समर्थ होते हैं, फिर भी उन्हें अपने मित्रों
की सहायता की आवश्यकता भी होती है  जैसे कि समुद्र जल से
परिपूर्ण (भरा हुआ) होने पर भी उसे अपने जलस्तर को और ऊपर
उठाने के लिये चन्द्रमा के उदय होने की प्रतीक्षा करनी  पडती है |

(इस सुभाषित में चन्द्रमा के गुरुत्वाकर्षण के कारण समुद्र में ज्वार
उत्पन्न होने के कारण उसके जलस्तर में वृद्धि होने की प्रक्रिया  को
एक उपमा के रूप में बडी कुशलता से प्रयुक्त किया गया है )

Api sampoornatayaa yukte kartavyaah suhrudo budhaih.
Nadeeshah paripoornopi chandrodayamapekshate.

Api = although..   Sampoornatayaa = completeness.    Yuktai =
possessed of, endowed with.      Kartavyaah = duties.  
Suhrudo = friends.     Budhaih = learned men.    Nadeeshah  =
the Ocean.     Paripoornopi = paripoorno +api,     Paripoornao=
completely filled.   Chandrodayamapekshate = chaandrodayam +
apekshate.     Chandrodayam = rising of the Moon in the sky.
Apekshate = requires, expects.

i.e.         Although learned men are quite competent to perform
their duties, they still need the help of their friends just like the
Ocean, which although full of water still waits for the rising of
the Moon in the sky for increasing the level of its water.

(In this Subhashita the phenomenon  of occurrence of tides in the
Ocean due to the gravitational pull of the Moon has been skillfully
used as a metaphor by the author.)
