Today's Subhashita.

अस्य दग्धोदरस्यार्थे किं न कुर्वन्ति पण्डिताः  |
वानरीमिव  वाग्देवी  नर्तयन्ति  गृहे  गृहे        ||   - महासुभषितसंग्रह  -

अर्थ -      अपने उदर (पेट ) की भूख  की आग को शान्त करने के लिये
पण्डित वर्ग क्या क्या नहीं करता है |  वे इस के लिये अपनी माता सरस्वती
को एक  बन्दरिया की तरह घर घर  जा कर नचाते  हैं |

(विद्वान् व्यक्तियों को 'सरस्वती पुत्र' भी कहा जाता है |  इस सुभाषित
में उन विद्वानों के ऊपर व्यङ्ग्य किया गया है जो अपना पेट पालने के
लिये या अधिक धनवान बनने की लिप्सा के कारण अपनी विद्या का
आदर न करते हुए उसका दुरुपयोग कर उसे अपात्रों को देने में भी नहीं
झिझकते  हैं  | )

Asya dagdhodarasyaarthe kim na kurvanti panditaah.
Vaanareemiva Vaagdevi  nartayanti gruhe gruhe.

Asya = this.      Dagdhodarasyaarthe = Dagdh +udarasya = arthe.
Dagdha = consumed by fire, miserable. .    Udarasya = stomach's  
Arthe = for the sake of.       Kim = what not.      Kurvanti = do.
Panditaah =  scholars, learned persons.   Vanareemiva = vanaree +
iva.      Vanaree - a female monkey.     Iva = like a.     Vaagdevi =
Sarasvati, the Goddess of Learning, according to Hindu Religion.
Nartayanti = dances.    Grahe Grahe - form house to house.

i.e.        What not can learned persons do to satiate the fire of hunger
in their stomachs ?   They even  force their Mother Sarasvati to dance
like a female monkey from house to house.

(Learned persons are termed as 'Sons' of Sarasvati , the Goddess of
Learning according to Hindu Mythology. The above Subhashita is
a satire on those learned persons who stoop too low to acquire wealth
by misusing their learning and impart it to undeserving persons, which
is akin to forcing their mother dance like a monkey before a crowd.)
