Today' s Subhashita.

आदौ  कुलं परीक्षेत  ततो विद्या ततो वयं  |
शीलं धनं ततो रूपं देशं पश्चात्विवाह्येत्    ||     -महासुभषितसंग्रह  (4743)

अर्थ -      विवाह सम्बन्ध स्थापित करने हेतु सर्वप्रथम  दूसरे पक्ष के कुल की
जांच करनी  चाहिये,  और उसके बाद क्रमशः वर या कन्या की शैक्षिक योग्यता ,
और  आयु, चरित्र, आर्थिक स्थिति, सौन्दर्य  तथा देश् या निवास स्थान की अच्छी
 तरह जांच करने के बाद ही विवाह  सम्पन्न करना चाहिये |

Aadau kulam pareekshet tato vidyaa tato vayam,
Sheelam dhanam tato roopam desham pashchaatvivaahayet.

Aadau = initially.    Kulam = lineage, dynasty.   Pareekshet =  examine.
Tato = afterwards.    Vidyaa = knowledge, learning.   Vayam =   we.
Sheelam = character.     Dhanam = wealth.    Roopam = beauty,
Desham = country.    Pashchatvivaahayet = pashchaat +vivaahayet.
Pashchat =  thereafter..     Vivaahayet = perform the marriage.

i.e.       Whole striking a marriage alliance, initially one should examine the
social status of the opposite party and afterwards the educational status, age,
character, financial position, beauty and the place or country to which they
belong and thereafter solemnise the marriage.
