Api sampoornatayaa yuktaih kartruvyah suhrudo budhaih .
Nadeeshh paripoornopi chandrodayamapekshate.
Api = even. Sampoornataa = completeness. Yuktaih =
joined, having. Kartruvyaa = doing any particular action
or business. Suhrudo = friends. Budhaih = learned men.
Nadeeshah= the ocean. Paripoornopi = paripoorno+api.
Paripoorno = completely filled, saturated. Chandrodayam +
apekshate = Chandrodsayamapekshate. Chandrodsayam=
rising of the Moon on the sky. Apekshate = requires.
i.e. Although learned persons are well versed in various
disciplines of learning, they still need the assistance of their
friends for accomplishing a particular task e.g. the Ocean,
which is full to the brim with water, still needs the Moon to
rise in the sky to raise its water level.(to create high tide)..
(In this Subhashita the natural phenomenon of creation of
tides in the Ocean due to the gravitational pull of the Moon
has been used as a simile to highlight the fact that even highly
skilled persons need the assistance of their friends for
accomplishing an important and difficult task.)
