Today's Subhashita.

एक और 'वहिर्लापिका' प्रस्तुत है :-
भागीरथी कथम्भूता कामनी प्राह् किं  प्रियं |
एकमेवोत्तरं  देहि  शास्त्रलौकिक  भाषया  || -सुभाषितरत्नाकर

अर्थ -     पुण्यसलिला भागीरथी (गङ्गा नदी) का क्या मुख्य उद्देश्य
(लाभ) है और सुन्दर स्त्रियों को वह्  क्यों प्रिय है ?  इस प्रश्न का केवल
एक ही उत्तर शास्त्र सम्मत या जनसाधारण की भाषा में  दो |

(इस पहेली  का उत्तर है  कि गङ्गा नदी 'मलापहा' अर्थात मन और शरीर\
दोनों को निर्मल करने की क्षमता राखती है क्योंकि  सनातान धर्म में
मान्यता है कि गङ्गा स्नान  से  शरीर की शुद्धि के  अतिरिक्त सभी पापों
का  नाश हो जाता है | )

Here is one more 'Vahirlaapikaa :-

Bhaageerathi kathambhootaa  kaamanee  praaha kim  priyam
Ekamevottaram dehi shaastralaukik bhaashayaa.

Bhaageerathee = reference to the sacred river Ganges.
Kathambhootaa = of what purpose or being.       Kaamanee =
a lovely woman.   Praaha=  generally.   Kim = what.   Priyam =
liked, pleasant.     Ekamevottaram = ekam + iva + uttaram,  
Ekam = one.   Iva = just.     Uttaram =  anawer.     Dehi = give.
Shaastralokik =  shaastra + laukik.     Shaastra =  literature  
Laukik = common.     Bhaashayaa = language.

i.e.     What is the main benefit or purpose of the sacred river Ganges
and why it is liked by beautiful women ?   Give only one answer to
this riddle either in literary terms or in common parlance.

(The answer given is 'Malaapaha'   i.e.  .remover of all impurities,
both of the mind and the body.  In Hindu religion it is believed that
bathing in the river,Ganges besides purifying the body also absolves
a person from all sins committed by him.)
