Today's Subhashita.

Kimicchanti narah kaashyaam  bhoopaanam ko rane  hitah.
Ko vandyah sarvadevaanaam deeyataamekamuttaram.

Kimicchanti = kim +icchanti.    Kim = what.    Icchanti =
wish, desire.    Narah = a person.    Kashyaam =  A holy city
of India, also known as Varanasi.    Bhoopaanaam = kings.
Ko = who.     Rane = in the battlefield.    Hitah = interest,
advantage.     Vasndyah = very venerable.   Sarvadevaanaam =
sarva +devaanaam.    Sarva = all.     Devaanaam = Gods.
Deeyataamekamuttaram = deeyataam +eka +_uttaram.
Deeyataam = give.   Eka = only one.    Uttaram = answer.

(The above Subhashita classified under the category 'Antarlaapikaa'
is also another type of a riddle, the answer of which is hidden in the
riddle itself.)

i.e.      What is the desire of a person while he is in Kashi,the holy
city, and what is of interest or advantageous to kings in the battle
field, and which God is most venerable among all Gods  ? Give
only one answer to all these questions.

(The answer to this riddle is "Mrutyunjaya" i.e. God Shiva, whose
abode is also at Kashi, one of the holiest places according to Hindu
religon.' Mrutyunjaya  means one who has conquered death . It
is believed that those who die at Kashi get absolved from the cycle
of rebirth and death.)
