Today's Subhashita;

द्वयं जहाति सेवकः सुखं च  मानमेव च |
यदर्थमर्थमीहते   तदेव  तस्य   हीयते     ||   - सुभषितरत्नाकर

अर्थ =     एक सेवक को सुख और  आत्म सम्मान,इन दोनों को
 त्याग देना पडता है |  जब भी  वह् अधिक धन (वेतन) की मांग
करता है तब तब उसे यह्  देने से इन्कार (मना) कर दिया जाता है |

|Dvyam jahaati sevakah sukham ha maanameva  cha.
Yadarthamarthameehate  tadeva  tasya  heeyate,

Dvytam = two.     Jahaati = renounces, gives up.   Sevakah =
a servant.     Sukham = happiness, pleasure.   Cha =  and.
Maanameva = maanam +eva.     Maanam = respect.    Aiva=
as also/    Yadarthamarthameehate. = yadartham +artham +
ihate.   Yadartham = with the intention of.  Artham = wealth.
Iihate =  desires.     Tadeva = then, that.    Tasya = his.
Heeyate =  decline,  refuse |

i.e.       A servant has to give up both his happiness and self-
respect. Whenever he desires an increase in his wages he gets
a refusal from his employer.
