मौनान्मूकः प्रवचनपटुर्वाचलो जल्पको वा
धृष्टः पार्श्वे वसति च सदा दूरतस्त्वप्रगल्भः |
क्षान्त्या भीरुर्यदि न सहते प्रायशो नाSभिजातः
सेवाधर्मः परम गहनो योगिनामप्यगम्यः || - सुभषितरत्नाकर
अर्थ - मौन रहने वाला, गूंगा ,अनचाही सीख देने वाला, वाचाल,
बातूनी धृष्टता करने वाला, निकटता प्रकट करने वाला या दूरी बनाये
रखने वाला तथा डरपोक व्यक्ति , जो उच्च कुल में उत्पन्न न हुआ हों
और सेवक के रूप में जीवनयापन करता हो , उसमें प्रायः धैर्य और
सहनशीलता की कमी और भय की भावना पाई जाती है | सेवाधर्म (एक
सेवक के विभिन्न कर्तव्य) का पालन ऐसे साधारण व्यक्ति के द्वारा
करना तो बहुत दूर की बात है महान योगियों के द्वारा भी उनका पालन
करना अगम्य (अत्यन्त कठिन )होता है |
(गोस्वामी तुलसीदास जी ने भी कहा है कि - 'सबते सेवक धर्म कठोरू' | )

Dhrushtah paarshve vasati ch sada dooratastrvapragalbhah.
Kshaantyaa bheeruryadi na sahate praayaqsho naabhijaatah.
Sevaadharmah parama gahano yoginaamapyagamyah.
Maun = silence. Mookh = dumb. Pravachanpatu = expert in
lecturing. Vaachaalo = talkative Jalpako = talkative. Vaa = or.
Dhrushtah = arrogant. Parshve = alongside. vasati = stays.
sadaa = always. Dooratah = remaining aloof. tu = and/or.
Apragalbhah = timid. Kshaantyaa = tolerence, patience.
Bheeruryadi = bheeruh +yadi. Bheeruh = fearful. Yadi = if.
Na = not. Sahate = prevail. Praayasho = generally.
Naabhijaatah = not well born. ignoble'.. Sevaadharmah =
various duties of any service. Param = very, absolute.
Gahano = difficult to perform. Yoginaamapyagamyah =
yoginaam + api + agamyah. Yoginaam = for the Yogis. Api =
even. Agamyah = inaccessible, unattainable.
i.e. A persons who is either silent and dumb, or very talkative,
is arrogant, tries to be very near or remains aloof , is very timid,
or born in an ignoble family, when becomes a servant to earn his
livelihood, is generally found lacking in tolerance,and patience.
and is always fearful . To religiously adhere to the duties of a
servant is very difficult task and what to say of ordinary persons even
Yogis find it very difficult to do so.
(Through this Subhashita the author has has outlined all the negative
traits which a servant should never have in him..)
