Today's Subhashita.

Aham mamatyeva bhavasya beejam na mey na chaaham bhavabeejashaantih.
Beeje pranashte kuta eva janmah nirindhano vahnirupaiti shaantih.

Aham = I      Mamatyeva = mama+iti + aiva.      Mama = mine.    Iti=it
Aiva = also.     Bhaavasya = World's    Beejam = seed,  driving force, primary
cause.     Na = not/     Mey = my.    Chaaham = cha + aham       Cha = and.
Bhavabeejshaantih.     Bhavabeej = driving force of world's existence.
shaantih = end, destruction.    Beeje = the main cuse.    Pranashte = gone,
ceased, being no more.  Kuta = from where.   Aiva = really.   Janmah =
birth.    Nirindhano = nih +indhano.   Nih = without.   Indhano = fuel.
Vahnirupaitishaantih = vahnih +upaiti+shaantih.    Vahnih = fire.
Upaiti = arrives, suffers.

i.e.        The instinct   "I only,  all is mine "  is the driving force running this
World, and on the other hand the instinct  " I am no body, nothing is mine'
destroys this instinct.   Just as a fire gets extinguished if there is no fuel, in
the same manner if this driving force is no more there, then of what use is
being born in this World ?

(All the progress mankind has made in this World is due to the instinct of
possessiveness and in absence of  this instinct it is of no use to to be born.
This is the message given in the above Subhashita.)

    1. Please refer to the preface of my blog about different interpretation of a subhashita.Possessive can have various levels and can be termed as aasha and krushna. Aasha is good upto a certain limit but when is too much and for a wrong reason it is termed as krushna which is condemnable. For a Pedantic interpretation of this shlok please refer to the comment of shri Vasudev Sarvam in Hindi. My interpretation is according to the modern times.

  3. The proverb says.. If you wish to involved with world & be meshed into its Karma- flow, then work with 'me-mine feeling'. Be possessive, and then you slowly sink into all ebbs-flow of material world. Its pain n pleasure.
    But if you wish to rise above shackles of world, break bonds which bind you to this material world, proceed with thought: Not me, Not mine. This thought would help in achieving "ashakti" (no-attachment) to work & its result. In longer run , this thought process will help in achieving spiritual upliftment & maybe, Nirvana.
