Today's Subhashita.

आयाच्चतुर्थभागेन  व्यय कर्म  प्रवर्तयेत्  |
अन्यूनतैलदीपोSपि चिरं भद्राणि पश्यति || - महासुभषितसंग्रह (5078)

अर्थ -       कुल आय के  एक चौथाई भाग को अपनी प्रमुख आवश्यकताओं
को पूरा करने में व्यय करना चाहिये  तथा अन्य छोटी घरेलू आवश्यक्ताओं
जैसे घर में प्रकाश करने के लिये  तैल और दीपक की व्यवस्था आदि के लिये 
भी कम व्यय करने वाला व्यक्ति चिर काल तक सम्पन्न और सुखी रहता है |

( उपर्युक्त सुभाषित का निहितार्थ  यही है कि आय से अधिक व्यय नहीं  करने 
तथा कुछ धन की बचत भविष्य के लिये करने वाला व्यक्ति सदैव सुखी रहता है )

Aayaacchaturthabhaagena vyayakarma pravartayet,
Anyoonatailadeepopi chiram bhadraani pashyati.

Aayaachaturthabhaagena =    aayaat +chaturtha +bhaagena.
Aayaat = of the income.     Chatrurth =fourth.     Bhaagena =
division., portion.    Vyayakarma =    the business of making
payments     Pravartayet = undertake.   Anyoonatailadeepopi  =
anya +oona +deepo + api.    Anya = other.   Oona =  smaller, .  
Tail = oil.        Deepo = lamps.     Api = even.          Chiram =
for a long time      Bhadraani = prosperity, happiness.
Pashyati = experiences.

i.e.        One  should  spends one fourth of his income towards  meeting
the major h ousehold expenses and smaller amounts towards meeting
petty expenses e.g. purchase of oil and lamps for lighting  arrangement,
etc,,  Such a person always remains prosperous and happy in his lifetime.

(The inherent message of this Subhashita is that one should not spend
more than his income, if he wants to lead a happy and prosperous life.)
