Today's Subhashita.

ईर्ष्या लोभो मदः प्रीतिः क्रोधो भीतिश्च  साहसं |
प्रवृत्तिच्छिद्रहेतूनि  कार्ये  सप्त  बुधा  जगुः       || - महासुभषितसंग्रह

भावार्थ -  ईर्ष्या, लोभ, अभिमान, मित्रता (अयोग्य व्यक्तियों से ), क्रोध,
भय, दुःसाहस,  ये  सात  प्रवृत्तियां  इस संसार  मे  किसी  भी कार्य  के
संपादन में बाधा और हानि पहुंचाती हैं , ऐसा चतुर और विद्वान् व्यक्तियों
का कहना है |

Eershya lobho madah preetih krodho bheetishcha saahasam.
Pravrutticchidrahetooni  kaarye sapta budhaa  jaguh.

Eersyaa = jealousy.   Lobho = greed.   Madah = pride, arrogance.
Preetih = friendship.    Krodho = anger.   Bheetishcha = bheetih +
cha.      Bheetih = fear.  Cha = and.  Saahasam = over confidence.
Pravrutticchidrahetooni = Pravrutti + ccchidra + hetooni.
Pravrutti =  tendency.   Cchidra = defect,  week points , a hole.
Hetuni =  reason .    Kaaryam =  work,    Sapta = seven.
Budhaa = learned and wise men.    Jaguh = in this world.

i.e.       Wise and learned men have proclaimed that in this World, envy,
greed, arrogance, friendship (with undeserving persons),anger, fear of
any sort, and  over-confidence,  all these seven traits in  a person are the
main reasons of causing impediments and defects in any work undertaken
by him.
