एकः सकलजनानां हृदयेषु कृतास्पदो मदः शत्रुः |
येनाविष्टशरीरे न श्रुनोतो न पश्यति स्तब्धः || - महासुभषितसंग्रह
भावार्थ - मदिरापान तथा अहङ्कार एक महान् शत्रु के समान लोगों
के मन पर एक शत्रु के समान पूर्ण अधिकार कर लेते हैं जिसके प्रभाव
में आ कर वे उन्मत्त हो कर न तो किसी की कोई बात सुनते हैं तथा
मदान्ध हो कर न अन्य लोगों की समृद्धि को ही देख सकते हैं |
Ekah sakalajanaanaam hrudayeshu krutaaspado madah shatruh.
Yenaavishtashareere na shrunoti na pashyati stabdhh.
Ekah = one. Sakala = total , all . Janaanaam = people.
Hrudayeshu = hearts, Krutaaspada = governs, rules. Madah =
drunkenness, pride. Shatruh = enemy. Yenaavishtashareere=
yean +aavishta+ shareere. Yena = by which, Aavishta =
entered, possessed. Shareere = in the body. Na = not.
Shrunoti = listens (to others) Pashyati = sees. Stabdhh =
senseless, arrogant, immobile.
i.e. Consuming liquor and pride and arrogance control the
minds of people like an enemy, and under their influence people
become inebriated and by becoming senseless are unable to hear ,
and blinded by arrogance are unable to see the prosperity of others.
