आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

एकः शत्रुर्नद्वितीयोSस्ति  शत्रुरज्ञानतुल्यः पुरुषस्य राजन्  |
येनावृतः कुरुते  संप्रयुक्तः घोराणि  कर्माणि  सुदारुणानि    || -महासुभषितसंग्रह

भावार्थ -    हे राजन्  !  मानव का अज्ञान के समतुल्य  दूसरा और कोई  शत्रु नहीं
होता  है  क्यों कि  इसके प्रभाव से ही वह अनेक अत्यन्त बुरे और क्रूर (दया रहित )
 कर्मों  को करने में संलग्न रहता है |

(अज्ञान के कारण मनुष्य में अपने भले और बुरे की पहचान  नहीं होती  है जिसके
फलस्वरूप वह्  बुरे और निषिद्ध कार्यों  को करने में जरा भी संकोच नहीं करता है |
इसी तथ्य को एक उपदेश के रूप मे उपर्युक्त सुभाषित मे व्यक्त किया गया है )

Ekah shatrurnadviteeyosti shatruragyaanatulyah purushasya raajan.
Yenavrutah kurute sampruktah ghoraani karmaani sudaarunaani.

Ekah = one.   Shatrurnadviteeyosti = shatruh +na +dviteeyo+ asti.
Shatruh = enemy.   Na = not.    Dviteeyo =  second.   Asti =  is.
Shatruragyaanatulyah = shatruh + agyaan + tulyah.    Agyaana=
ignorance.   Tulyah = of the same kind, similar.   Purashasya = of a
person.    Raajan =  King.     Yenaavrutah = yena_aavrutah.    Yena=
by means of  which.    Aavrutah = covered, involved.    Kurute =
does.   Samprayuktah = bound to., dependent on.   Ghoraani  =
horrible.   Karmaani = actions, deeds.    Sudaarunaani = very cruel.

i.e.   O King  !    ignorance is the first and foremost enemy of a person
and there is no other enemy comparable to it, because under its influence
he tends to commit many horrible and cruel deeds,

(Due to ignorance a person is unable to differentiate between  things
that are good and bad  for him, and as a result he does not hesitate to
do deeds that are harmful to him. This fact ha been highlighted in the
above Subhashita.)
