प्राप्तानपि नो लभते भोगन्भोक्तुं स्वकर्मभिः कृपणः |
द्राक्षाप्रपाक समये मुखपाको भवति काकानाम् || - महासुभषितसंग्रह
भावार्थ - एक कृपण (कंजूस) व्यक्ति के पास जो भी धन संपत्ति सुलभ
होती हैं उनका उपभोग वह अपनी अकर्मण्यता और कंजूसी की आदत के
कारण नहीं कर पाता है और उसकी स्थिति ऐसे कव्वों के समान हो जाती है
जिन् की चोंचें अंगूरों की फसल पकने के समय ही रोगग्रस्त हो जाती हैं |
Praaptaanapi no labhate bhogaanbhoktum svakarmabhih krupanah .
Draakshaaprapaak samaye mukhapaako bhavati kaakaanaam.
Praaptaanapi = praaptaan +api. Praaptaan = getting. Api = even.
No = not. Labhate = get Bhogaanbhoktum = Bhogaan + bhoktum.
Bhogaan = possessions. Bhoktum = enjoying, eating. Svakarmabhih=
One;s own actions or behaviour. Krupanah = a miser. Drakshaa =
grapes. Prapaaka = ripening. Samaye = at the time of. Mukhapaako=
inflammation of the mouth. Bhavati = happens. Kaakaanaam = crows.
i.e. A miser in spite of possessing immense wealth is not able to enjoy
it by conspicuous consumption due to his miserly bent of mind and
inaction, just like the crows who develop inflammation of their beaks
at the time of ripening of grapes in a vine yard.
