इयमुन्नतसत्वशालिनी महतां काSपि कठोरचित्तता |
उपकृत्य भवन्ति दूरतः परतः प्रत्युपकारशङ्कया ||

भावार्थ - यदि सज्जन, महान और शक्तिशाली व्यक्तियों के
द्वारा किसी व्यक्ति की सहायता करने के पश्चात् यदि उससे दूरी
बना कर उस से रूखा व्यवहार किया जाता है तो ऐसा इस आशङ्का
के कारण होता है कि कहीं वह उपकृत व्यक्ति कृतज्ञता या प्रत्युपकार
करने की इच्छा व्यक्त न कर दे |
Iyamunnata-satvashaalinee mahataam kaapi kathorachittataa.
Upakrutya bhavanti dooratah paratah pratyupakaara-shankayaa.
Iyam + unnata +satvashaalinee. Iyam = this. Unnata = noble.
Satvashaalinee = energetic, courageous. Mahataam = great men.
Kaapi = any. Kathorachittataa = cruelty. Upakrutya = after helping.
Bhavanti = they are. Dooratah = at a distance, aloof. Paratah =
distant, strange. Pratyupakaara = gratitude, returning a favour.
Shankayaa = doubt, apprehension.
i.e. If noble and great persons after helping a person remain aloof
and indifferent towards him , it is due to their apprehension that the
person assisted by them may try to express his gratitude or try to
return the favour done towards him.
