महतां सद्व्ययेनैव विपत्तिरपि शोभते |
दन्तभङ्गो हि नागानां श्लाघ्यो गिरिविदारणे || - शार्ङ्गधर
भावार्थ - सज्जन और महान व्यक्ति उनके द्वारा किसी
सद्कार्य के लिये किये हुए व्यय के कारण उत्पन्न हुई विपत्ति
के समय भी उसी प्रकार सुशोभित (शान्त और दृढ ) रहते हैं
जिस प्रकार एक गजराज अपने लम्बे दांतों के टूटने तथा एक
पर्वत भूस्खलन होने के बाद भी सुशोभित ही रहते हैं |
Mahataam sadvyayenaiva vipattirapi shobhate.
Dantabhango hi naagaaanaam shlaaghyo girividaarane.
Mahataam = noble and great persons. Sadvyayenaiva =
sat + vyayena + eva. Sat = right. Vyayena = by doning
some expenditure. Eva =really. Vipattirapi =Vipattih + api.
Vipatti = calamity. Api = even. Shobhate = look calm
and beautiful. Dantabhango = fracture of the tusk,
Hi = just . Naagaanaam = elephants. Shlaaghyo =
laudable, appreciable. Giri = a mountain. Vidaarane =
breaking .
i.e. Noble and great people remain calm and beautiful
even while facing a calamity caused by incurring expenditure
for a good cause, just like an elephant with a broken tusk or a
mountain after a landslide in it .
