Chhinnopi rohati tarushchandrah ksheenopi vardhate loke.
Iti vimrushantah santah smtapyante na lokesmin.
Chinnopi = chinnno + api. Chinno = cut off. Api = even.
Rohati = grow, increases. Tarushchandrah = taruh + chandrah.
Taruh = a tree. Chandrah = the Moon. Ksheenopi = ksheeno+
api. Ksheeno = diminished in size., waning (of the moon )
Vardhate = increases in size, sprouts ( in the case of a tree), waxes
(in the case of the Moon). Loke =in this world. Iti = this.
Vimrushantah = perceive. Santah= a noble and ascetic person.
Santapyate = suffer pain. Na = not. Lokesmin = loke+asmin.
Asmin = in this.
i.e. The stem and branches of a tree on being chopped off, its
remnants sprout and the tree grows again . Likewise, the Moon
during its waning period gets reduces in size and during its waxing
period again grows in size and acquires its original shape. Being
well aware of the fact that in this World periods of decay and growth
(as also miseries and happiness ) follow each other, noble ascetic
persons do not grieve even while facing hardships.
