आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita .

मान्या एव हि मान्यानां मानं कुर्वन्ति नेतरे  |
शंभुर्विभार्ति  मूयत ए udन्दुं  स्वर्भानुस्तं  जिघृक्षति  ||
                       -सुभाषित रत्नाकर (शार्ङ्गधर )

भावार्थ -   माननीय व्यक्ति ही अन्य माननीय  व्यक्तियों का यथोचित
सम्मान करते हैं तथा अन्य व्यक्ति निश्चय ही उनका सम्मान नहीं करते
हैं |  देखो तो भगवान शिव ने तो चन्द्रमा को अपने मस्तक पर धारण कर
उसे सुशोभित किया , परन्तु  उसी चन्द्रमा को ग्रसने के लिये राहु सदैव तत्पर
रहता है |

(प्रस्तुत सुभाषित में राहु द्वारा चन्द्रमा को ग्रसने की खगोलीय घटना (चन्द्र
ग्रहण)तथा भगवान शिव द्वारा उसी चन्द्रमा को अपने ललाट पर धारण करने
को उपमा के रूप में प्रयुक्त कर यह  प्रतिपादित किया है कि सज्जन व्यक्ति ही
अन्य सज्जनों का उचित आदर सत्कार करते है अन्य साधारण व्यक्ति नहीं |)

Maanyaa eva hi maanyaanaam maanam kurvanti netare.
Shambhrvibhaarti  moordhnendum svarbhaanustam jighrakshati.

Maanyaa = honourable persons.   Eva= really.   Hi = surely.
Maanyaanaam = honourable persons.   Maanam = respect 
kurvanti = do.    Netare =na + itare.    Na=not.   Itare = others.
Shambhurvibhaarti = shambhuh + vibhaarti.    Shambhuh =
God Shiva.   Vibhaarti = excel by .  Moordhnendum = moordhni +
indum.   Moordhni = over the forehead .   Indu = the Moon.
Svarbhaanustam = svarbhaanuh + tam.  Svarbhaanuh = Rahu or
the imaginary planet called Dragon's head in English.   Tam =
to him (the Moon).    Jighrukshati = seizes (lunar eclipse) 

i.e.   Only honourable persons give due respect to other honourable
persons and surely not so by other ordinary persons.  Just see, how
Lord Shiva adorns the vibrant moon by placing it over his forehead,
whereas Rahu (Dragon's head)  seizes the Moon during the Lunar
Eclipse.

(In this Subhashita the phenomenon of Lunar eclipse has been used as
a simile to emphasise the fact that only honourable persons give due
respect to other honourable persons. )
