आज का सुभाषित /Today's Subhashita

मज्जन्तोSपि  विपत्पयोधिगहने  निःशङ्कधैर्याSSवृता
कुर्वन्त्येव परोपकारमनिशं  सन्तो यथाशक्ति वै     |
राहोरुग्रकरालवक्रकुहरग्रासाधिभूतोSप्यलं
चन्द्रः किं  न जनं  करोति सुखिनं  ग्रासाSवशेषैः करैः ||
             -  सुभाषित रत्नाकर ( महाजनप्रशंसा -स्फुट )                         -

भावार्थ -   महान विपत्तियों के गहन  समुद्र में  निमग्न (फंसे हुए)
होने पर भी संत पुरुष  बिना किसी शङ्का के धैर्य पूर्वक और यथा
शक्ति अपने परोपकार के कार्यों को उसी प्रकार लगातार जारी रखते
है जिस प्रकार चन्द्र ग्रहण के समय अत्यन्त उग्र,कराल तथा वक्र  राहु
के द्वारा अपने कुहर में ग्रस लिये जाने से उसके वश में  होने पर भी
चन्द्रमा अपनी बची हुई किरणों से इस संसार के लोगों को सुखी करने
के लिये क्या कुछ  नहीं करता है ?  (अर्थात हर संभव प्रयत्न करता है )

Majjantopi vipat-payodhi-gahanam nihshanka-dhairyaavrutaa.
Kurvantyeva paropakaaram-anisham santo yathaashakti vai.
Raahorugrakaraalavakrakuharagraasaadhibhootopyalam.
Chandrah ki m na janam karoti sukhinam graasaavasheshaih karaih.

Majjanto + api.     Majjanto = sinking. plunging.      Api = even.
Vipata+payodhi +gahane.    Vipat= calamity.   Payodhi = ocean.
Gahane =impassable, very deep.   Nihshanka = without any doubt.
Dhairy +aavrutaa.   Dhairya  = patience.    Aavrutaa= filled with
Kruvanti + iva.    Kurvanti = do .  Iva = really.  Paropakaaram =
helping the needy.  Anisham = constantly.   Santo = noble persons
Yathaashakti = to the utmost of one's ability or power.   Raaho =
imaginary planet called Dragon's head in English)   Ugra=fierce.
Karaala= terrible.   Vakra= crooked.   kuhara= cavity.   Graasa=bite,
swallowing.  Abhibhooto = .subdued.  api+ alam.   Alam =enough.
Chandra = the Moon.   Kim= what    Na= not.   janam = people.
Karoti = does. sukhinam = happy. Graasa .+ avasheshe  =remnant.
karaih = rays  (of the Moon).

i.e.         In spite of being plunged in the impassable and deep ocean of
calamities,  noble and righteous persons, assisted by their patience  still
continue to help the needy persons to the best of their ability and power,
just like the Moon, who, even eclipsed and subdued by the fierce,terrible
and crooked Rahu (Dragon;s head) , what not efforts he does to make the
people on the Earth happy by the remnants of its rays ?  (i.e. he does every
possible effort .)
