आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

गुरोरधीताSखिलवैद्यविद्यः  पीयूषपाणिः कुशलः क्रियासु  |
गतस्प्रहो धैर्यधरः कृपालुः शुद्धोSधिकारी भिषगीदृशः स्यात्  ||

भावार्थ -   जिसने अपने गुरुओं से संपूर्ण चिकित्सा विज्ञान सीखा हो
शल्यक्रिया करने में  इतना कुशल हो कि मानो उसके हाथों में मृतक
को भी जीवित करने वाला अमृत हो , ईर्ष्या से रहित,धैर्यवान, दयालु और
सरल स्वभाव वाला हो , वही वैद्य वास्तव में एक आदर्श वैद्य होता है |

(प्रस्तुत सुभाषित 'वैद्यप्रशंसा' शीर्षक से संकलित है | इस में एक आदर्श
चिकित्सक के गुणों का वर्णन किया गया है |  'कुवैद्योपहास ' शीर्षक के 
अन्तर्गत उसे यमराज का सहोदर तक कह दिया गया है कि - "वैद्यराज
नमस्तुभ्यं यमराजसहोदर  | यमस्तु हरति प्राणान्वैद्यः प्राणान्धनानि च ' | )

Guroradheetaakhilavaidyavidyah  peeyushapaanih kushalah kriya
Gataspraho dhairyadharah krupaaluh shuddhodhikaaree
bhishageedrushah syaat.

Guroh +adheeta+akhila+vaidyavidyah.      Guroh = teachers
.Adheeta = well read.   Akhila= entire.   Vaidyavidyah = the
science of medicine.   Peeyusha = Amruta, the divine nectar.
Panih = hands.   Kushalah = expert.    Kriyaasu =  techniques
of performing various operations.   Gataspraha = not envious.
Dhairyadharah = possessing firmness or constancy.   Krupaluh=
kind , merciful.     Shuddho+adhikaari   Shuddho = clean. 
Adhikaari = an authority.  Bhishagee = a physician.    Drushh=
in appearance.    Syaat = perhaps.

i.e.     A Vaidya (physician)  who has learnt the entire science of
Indian Medicine from his teacher, is so much expert in conducting
various critical operations as if he has in his hands 'Amruta' , the
nectar of Gods capable to bring to life a dead person, is not envious,
possesses firmness, is merciful and clean, is perhaps an ideal Vaidya.

(The above Subhashita praises a competent 'Vaidya' by describing
the essential qualities he must have. In another Subhashita criticizing
an incompetent and greedy Vaidya he has been described as a cousin
brother of Yama, the God of Death.)
