सर्वगुणैरूपपन्नः पुत्रः कस्यापि कुत्रचिद्भवति |
सोल्पायू रुग्णो वा ह्य्नपत्यो वा तथापि खेदाय ||
- सुभाषित रत्नाकर
भावार्थ - सर्वगुण संपन्न सन्तान यदि किसी की भी और कहीं भी
होती है तो वह या तो अल्पायु या बीमार या संतानहीन होती है और फिर
भी अपने माता पिता के लिये दुःखदायी ही होती है |
(प्रायः यह देखा गया है कि समाज में प्रकान्ड विद्वान ,समाज सुधारक,
वैज्ञानिक आदि अल्पायु,बीमार,अविवाहित या संतानहीन होते हैं , जैसे
महान गणितज्ञ रामानुजम , जगद्गुरु शंकराचार्य ,स्वामी विवेकानन्द,
विख्यात वैज्ञानिक स्टीफ़ेन् हौकिन्ग , भूतपूर्व राष्ट्रपति एपीजे अब्दुल
कलाम आदि | इसी तथ्य को इस सुभाषित में व्यक्त किया गया है | )

Sarva-gunai-roopapannah putrah kasyaapi kutrachidbhavati.
solpaayuh rugno va hyanapatyo vaa tathaapi khedaaya.
Sarvagunairupapannah= sarva + gunaih + upapannah. Sarva =
all. Gunaih = qualities, virtues. Upapannah = possessed of.
Putrah + a child or a son. Kasyaapi = kasya + api . Kasya =
whose. Api =too, even (to emphasise) Kutrachidbhavati =
Kutrachit +bhavati. Kutrachit =anywhere. Bhavati = happens.
Solpaayuh = sah + alpaayuh. Sah = he. Alpaayh = shortlived.
Rugno = sick. Vaa = or. Hyanapatyo= hi + anapatyo, Hi =
surely. Anapatyo = childless. Tathaapi = even then, yet.
Khedaaya =dejection, sadness.
i.e. If anybody anywhere begets a child who is very intelligent,
virtuous and possessed of all the qualities ,such a child is either
short lived, sick or childless and is a cause of sadness or dejection
to his parents.
(It is generally observed that great artists ,scientists, social reformers
etc,.are either short lived, sick or childless, e.g. the mathematician
Ramaanujam, Shankarachaary, Swami Vivekaanand, scientist Stephan
Hawking, former President A.P.J.Abdul Kalam etc. This Subhashita
outlines this phenomenon nicely.)
