आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

कुटिला लक्ष्मीर्यत्र  प्रभवति न सरस्वती वसति तत्र  |
प्रायः  श्वश्रूस्नुषयोर्न   दृश्यते  सौहृदं  लोके  ||
                                    - सुभाषित रत्नाकर (स्फुट )

भावार्थ -   जिस स्थान में कुटिल स्वभाव वाली देवी लक्ष्मी प्रभावशाली
स्थिति में होती है , वहां देवी सरस्वती निवास नहीं करती है , क्यों कि
समाज में यह देखा गया  है कि प्रायः एक  सास  और उसकी बहुओं के
बीच में सौहार्द (आदर और प्रेम की भावना) नहीं होती है |

(यह सुभाषित भी  'लक्ष्मीस्वभाव' शीर्षक के अन्तर्गत है | इसमें लक्ष्मी
और सरस्वती (ज्ञान की अधिष्ठात्री देवी) का आपसी सम्बन्ध सास और
बहू के रूप में  दिखा कर  संस्कृत साहित्य की उस धारणा को पुष्ट किया
है कि लक्ष्मी और सरस्वती में सनातन वैर है , जिस के फलस्वरूप विद्वान
व्यक्ति धनवान नहीं होते है और धनवान व्यक्ति विद्वान नहीं होते हैं | )

Kutilaa  Lakshmiryatra   prabhavati  na Sarasavati vaasati tatra.
Praayah shvashroo-snushayo-rna  drushyate sauhrudam loke.

Kutilaa = crooked.   Lakshmih = Goddess Lakshmi.   Yatra =
where.    Prabhavati = dominates, most powerful.   Na = not.
Sarasvati = the Goddess of knowledge and learning.  Vasati =
resides.   Tatra = there.    Praayah = perhaps.   Shvashroo =
mother-in-law.    Snushayoh = daughters-in-law.   Na = not.
Drushyate = seen.    Sauhrudam = friendship, affection.  Loke=
in ordinary life.

i.e.       In a place where Goddess Lakshmi is in a dominating
position, the Goddess Sarasvati (representing knowledge and
learning) never  resides, because it is generally seen in ordinary
life that the relationship between a mother-in-law and her daughter
-in-law is never affectionate and friendly.

(This Subhashita also  deals with the relationship between Goddess
Lakshmi and Sarasvati,  Here their relationship is shown as between
a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law , to emphasise the notion in
Sanskrit literature about enmity between Lakshmi and Sarasvati. )
