आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

दक्षिणाशाप्रवृत्तस्य  प्रसारितकरस्य  च  |
तेजस्तेजस्विनोSर्कस्य  ह्रियतेSन्यस्य का कथा ||
                 - सुभाषित रत्नाकर (प्रसंग रत्नावली )

भावार्थ -  जब एक याचक दान प्राप्त होने की आशा से दानदाता
के सामने अपने दोनों हाथ फैलाता है,  या  सूर्य जब दक्षिण दिशा
की ओर प्रस्थान करते समय  अपनी किरणों को विस्तारित करता
है तो महान तेजस्वी सूर्य के तेज में भी कमी  हो जाती  है , तो अन्य
साधारण व्यक्तियों के बारे में क्या कहना |
 (प्रस्तुत सुभाषित भी  'याचकनिन्दा' शीर्षक के अन्तर्गत संकलित
है | इस में 'द्क्षिणाशा' तथा 'कर' शब्दों को द्विअर्थक शब्दों के रूप में
प्रस्तुत किया है | दक्षिणाशा =(१) दान प्राप्ति की आशा (२)   दक्षिण -
पश्चिम दिशा की ओर प्रवृत्त, तथा कर =(१)  हाथ  (२) सूर्य की किरणे |
कहने  का तात्पर्य यह  है कि याचक अपनी गरिमा और आत्मसम्मान
खो देते हैं | )

Dakshinaahaa-pravruttasya  prasaarita-karasya  cha
Tejas-tejasvinorkasya hriyatenasya kaa katha.

Dakshinaa +aashaa+ pravruttasya.    Dakshniaa=donation,
gift.   Aashaa = hope.   Pravruttasya =  a person motivated
by.  Dakshinaasha =moving towards south-west. 
Prasaarati = spreads.   Karasy = hands, rays of the Sun.   
Cha = and.    Tejah +tejasvino+arkasya.  Tejah=brightness. 
Teejasvino=  splendid and noble.     Arkasya =  of the Sun.   
Hriyate= decreases.   Anyasya =  about others.  Kaa = what ?
 kathaa = to say about.

i.e.    When a beggar spreads his hands before a donar with
the hope of getting alms, or the bright and majestic Sun also
moves towards south-west  and spreads its rays, even the
majesty and brightness of the Sun gets reduced, what to say
about ordinary persons.

(This Subhashita is also classified as 'condemning the beggar' .
Here the words 'dakshinaasha' and 'karasya' have two meanings.
as given above.  The Sun moving towards south-west and losing
its brightness while setting has been used as a simile, to denote
that begging results in loss of self respect and virtues of a beggar.)
