आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

पादाभ्यां  न  स्पृशेदग्निं  गुरुं  ब्राह्मणमेव  च |
नैव गां  न  कुमारी  च  न  वृद्धं  न शिशुं  तथा  ||
                                     - चाणक्य नीति (७/६)

भावार्थ -   अपने  पैरों से कभी भी  अग्नि (आग ) , गुरु, तथा  ब्राह्मण
को स्पर्श (छूना ) नहीं करना चाहिये |  इसी प्रकार किसी  गाय, कुमारी
बालिका, वृद्ध व्यक्ति तथा शिशु को भी पैरों से नहीं  स्पर्श करना चाहिये |

(सनातन धर्म में इस सुभाषित में वर्णित सभी को परम् आदरणीय माना
गया है | अतः उन्हें पैरों  से छूना  निषिद्ध माना गया है |  इसी भावना को
इस सुभाषित में व्यक्त किया गया है | )

Paadaaabhyaam  na  sprushedagnim  gurum  brahmanmeva cha.
Naiva  gaam na kumaaree cha na vruddham na shishum tathaa.

Paaadaabhyaam = by the feet.  na = not.    spreshet +agnim.
Spreshet = touch.      Agnim = fire.        Gurum = the Teacher. 
Brahmana= a learned person belonging to the foremost class
among the three twice born classes i.e. Brahman, kshatriya and
Vaishya according to Sanaatana dharma.  Eva = only.  Cha= and.
Naiva = not.   Gaam = cows.   Kumaaree = a girl.   Vruddham =
aged person.   Shishum = a baby.   Tathaa =  so also.

i.e.     You should not touch a fire, a Teacher and a Brahmin by
your feet.  So also you should not touch similarly  a cow, a girl,
an aged person and a baby.

( In the Sanatana Dharma all those mentioned in this Subhashita are
considered as sacred  and touching them by the feet is prohibited to
show respect towards them.)
