आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

सन्तोषस्त्रिषु  कर्तव्यः  स्वदारे  भोजने  धने  |
त्रिषु  चैव  न  कर्तव्योSध्ययने  जपदानयोः    ||
                             - चाणक्य नीति (१३//१९ )

भावार्थ -    एक गृहस्थ का  यह कर्तव्य है कि वह अपनी
पत्नी,  भोजन तथा  धन ये तीनों जो उसे उपलब्ध हों उस
पर ही संतुष्ट रहना चाहिये ,परन्तु उसे विद्या प्राप्त करने,
मन्त्र जाप करने (उपासना करने का एक प्रकार) तथा दान
देना , इन तीन परिस्थितियों में कभी भी संतुष्ट नहीं होना
चाहिये |

Santoshastrishu  kartavyah  sva-daare  bhojane  dhane.
Trishu chaiva na kartavyodhyayane  japa-daanayoh.

Santoshah+ trishu.   Santoshah = contentedness  with.
Trishu = three.         Kartavyah = duty, worth doing.
Sva-daare.    Sva = one' own,  self.     Daare = wife.
Bhojane =  food.    Dhane = wealth.    Cha +  eva.
Cha = and.     Eva =also.      Na = not.    Kartavyo+
Adhyayane.   Adhyayane = learning.   Japa = muttering
prayer.     Daanayoh  = giving donations.

i.e.   It is the duty of a person that he should be contented in
respect of three aspects of his life, namely his wife,  the
food he gets, and the wealth in his possession.  On the other
hand he should  never  be contented in respect  of  acquiring
knowledge,  doing 'Japa'  (muttering prayers) and  giving
donations to the needy and poor people.
