The Sanskrit writers cultivated poetry to such an extent that every work, whether on philosophy or any other subject came to be written in verse. Thousands of couplets embodying in them choicest thoughts on various subjects are used in learned conversation, and a man is not considered as learned, unless he is able to repeat some celebrated saying.
