नानाSर्थाहरणं च काङ्क्षति मुदाSलंकारमाकर्षति |
आदत्ते सकलं सुवर्णनिचयं धत्ते रसान्तर्गतं
दोषान्वेषणतत्परो विजयते चोरोपमः सत्कविः ||
Mandam nikshipate padaani paritah shabdam samudveekshate.
Naanaarthaa haranam ch kaankshati mudaalankaaramaakarshitaa.
Aadatte sakalam suvaarnnichayam dhatte rasaantragatam .
Doshaanveshanatatparo vijayate choropamah satkivih.
Mandam = dull, fool. Nikshipate = discards, lays aside. Padaani = feets.
Paritah = bows,embraces. Shabdam = words. Samudveekshate = critically evaluated.
Naanaarthharanam = Naanaa + artha +aaharanam. Naanaa = diversely, various. Artha = meaning of a word. Aaharanam = bringing out, fetching. Kaanshati = strives to obtain, expects, desires.
Mudaalankaaramaakarshitaa = Muda + alankaram + aakarshitaa. Muda = delighted.
Alankaaram = ornaments, embellishment of poetry by the use of simile,metaphor and hyperbole etc.
Aakarshitaa = attracted. Aadatte = accepts, approves, appreciates. Sakalam = all, entire.
Suvarnanichayam = Su + varna + nichayam. Su = right, correct.,a prefix to a word giving more value
to it, Varna = a word, embellishment to a poetry Nichayam = collection. Dhatte = exists.
Rasaantargatam = rasa + antargagam . Rasa = taste, charm of various shades of sentiments like love,hate,compassion, anger, fear etc embodied in a poetry.. Antargat = included in.
Doshaanveshantatparo = dosh + anveshan + tatparo. Dosh = defects, shortcomings.
Anveshan = investigation, looking for. Tatpar = alert, devoted to. Vijayate = excels in, victorious.
Choropamah =Chor + upamah . Chor = a thief. Upamah = similar to , like a.

i.e. A versatile and honourable poet avoids the company of dull persons and always bows before other senior and established poets, has the ability to critically evaluate the words of a poem and is always eager to bringing out new or hidden meanings of words , is delighted and attracted by the use of various embellishments used in a poetry and appreciates the various sentiments embodied in the poetry , is an avid collector of such poetry.. He is also alert in detecting the shortcomings of other poets (poems) and excels in this art just like a thief .
