To day's Subhashit.

सर्वनाशो समुत्पन्ने अर्धम् त्यजति पण्डितः |
अर्धेन कुरुते कार्यं सर्वनाशो न जायते   |
Sarvanaasho Samutpanne Ardham Tyajati Panditah.
Ardhen Kurute Kaaryam Sarvanaasho Na Jaayate.

Sarvanaash = annihilation, total destruction.      Samutpanne = occuring, arisen.      Ardham = half (either of two equal parts of a thing).     Tyajati = give up, let go.    Panditah= a learned and wise person.     Ardhena = with the remaining half.
Kurute = does.     Kaaryam =  work in progress.       Na = not.    Jaayate = happens.

i.e.     A wise and learned person  when confronted by a situation where there is risk of annihilation ,wriggles out of such  a tricky situation by giving up half of his possessions. Afterwards by judiciously using the remaining half of his wealth he completes the work in progress and saves himself from total annihilation. [and again recovers his lost wealth]
