To day's Subhashit.

     From to day onwards, I will be posting Subhashits classified as "तृष्णा निन्दा"  (Trushnaa nindaa) i.e. denouncing excessive desire, bordering on greed.

आशाया ये दासस्ते दासाः सर्वलोकस्य  |
आशा येषां दासी तेषां  दासायते विश्वम्  ||

Aashaaya ye daasaste daasaah sarvalokasya.
Aashaa yeshaam daasi tesha am daasaayate vishvam.

Aashaaya = hope, desire. (excessive desire beyond a certain limit is termed as 'Trushna' and results in the downfall of the person obsessed by it)    Ye = whom.    Daasaste= become  a slave.     Daasaah = slaves.
Sarvalokasya = every one.      Yedshaam = whose.    Daasi = a female slave.  (Aasha is termed as feminine gender in Sanskrit)      Teshaam = they.      Daasayate = make  a slave.    Vishvam = every one,  universal

i.e.     Those who are slave of desires, are in reality slave of every one, whereas those who have enslaved the desires (are in full control of their desires) are able to enslave every one.

(.In Hindu religion 'Trushnaa' has been described as one of the causes of the downfall of men.  When a person is obsessed by 'trushnaa' he even does not hesitate to adopt unfair and unethical means to fulfill his desires.  So, this tendency has been condemned in strongest terms in our scriptures.)
