Today's Subhashita. (Discourse between Bheeshma and Yudhishthira on 'diplomacy' - (continured)

लोकरञ्जनमेवात्र  राज्ञां धर्मः सनातनः  |
सत्यस्य रक्षणं चैव व्यवहारस्य चार्जवम्  ||

अर्थ -    इस लोक में प्रजावर्ग को प्रसन्न रखना ही राजाओं का सनातन धर्म है | सत्य की रक्षा और व्यवहार की सरलता ही राजोचित कर्तव्य है  |

Lokaranjanmevaatra raagyam dharmh sanaatanh.
Satyasya rakshanam chaiva vyavahaarasya chaarjavam.

Lokaranjanmevaatra = Lokaranjanam + iva+atra.     Lokaranjan = gaining the confidence of the subjects and keep them happy.   Eva= really     Atra = here.    Raagyaam = for  the kings.    Dharmah = religious duty.
Sanaatanh = for ever , unending.  Sanaatan Dharma is the name of Hindu Religion propagated by Vedas and Smrities in which  various duties and rituals to be performed are detailed.     Satyasya = Truth's .
Raksjhanam = protection., to uphold.      Chaiva = cha + iva.    Cha = and.    Iva = in the same manner.
Vyavahaarasya = behaviour's     Chaarjavam = cha + aarjavam.     Aarjavam = honesty, sincerity.

       Outlining the intricacies of Diplomacy to Yudhishthara,  Bheeshma further says -

"It is the foremost religious duty (Sanaatan Dharma) of a King to keep his subjects happy and gain their confidence. In the same manner it is also his duty to  always uphold the Truth and maintain  honesty and sincerity in his behaviour.
