Today's Subhashita. (Discourse on 'Raajdharma' - continued )

Raajyam sarvamisham nityamaarjaveneha dharyate.         (in continuation of yesterday's Shloka)
taamaan mishrena satatam varitavyam yudhishthara.

Raajym = Kingdom.   Sarvamisham =sarva +amisham.   Sarva = every one.    Amisham = means of enjoyment.     Nityamaarjaveneha =  nityam+arjaven+ iha.    Nitya= always, every day.
Arjavena = by honesty, sincerity, straightforwardness.    Iha = in this case.   Dhaaryate =  can be upheld.
Tasmaanmishrena=  tasmaat +mishrena,    Tasmat = hence, therefore.    Mishrena = blend of....
Satatam = continuously.   Vartitavyam = to be practised, dealt with accordingly.

Continuing his discourse Bheeshma says to Yudhishthara -

"O Yudhishthara !  The kingdom is a means of support and enjoyment for its citizens ,  Therefore, its sanctity and utility can always be upheld and maintained only through honesty, sincerity and  straightforwardness.
Hence the King's  attitude towards governance of the kingdom should be a  judicious blend of firmness and kindness, depending upon the prevailing situations.

(These principles of Governance enunciated by Bheeshma to Yudhishthara are of eternal value.  All the conflicts and strifes in this World  are  mainly due to non-observance of these principles, classified by the sage Vedavyaas as "Rajdharma" , and are still as valid  as they were thousands of years back.)
