Today's Subhashita.

वृथा  वृष्टिः समुद्रेषु  वृथा  तृप्तेषु भोजनम् |
वृथा  दानं धनाढ्येषु वृथा दीपो दिवाSपि  च ||

अर्थ -   समुद्र के उपर वृष्टि ,  एक भोजन कर के तृप्त हुए व्यक्ति  को पुनः भोजन प्रस्तुत करना , एक धनाढ्य  व्यक्ति को दान देना, तथा सूर्य के प्रकाश में दीपक जलाना , ये सभी कार्य व्यर्थ हैं |

Vruthaa vrushtih Samudreshu vruthaa trupteshu bhojanam .
Vruthaa daanam dhanaadhyeshu vruthaa deepo Divakarah.

Vruthaa = futile.unneccessary      Vrushti  =  rainfall.     Samudreshu = over the oceean.  
Trupteshu = a satiated person.  Bhojanam = food/      Daanam = donation        Deepo = a lamp.     Divaakarah = the Sun.

i.e.     Rainfall over the ocean. offering food to a person who has taken a sumptuous meal just now, giving
donation to a  rich person and lighting a  lamp with  a bright  Sun in the sky,   all these are exercises in futility.
