Today's Subhashita.

Arthaaturaanaaam na shrunna bndhuh kaamaaturaanaam na bhayam na lajjaa
Vidyaaturaanaam na sukham na nidraa kshudhaaturaanaam na vapurn na tejah.

Arthaaturaanaam = artha + aaturaanaam.     Artha = money, wealth.    Aturaanaam = obsesssed,
afflicted by.    Na = not.    Suhrunna =  Suhrtuda +na.     Suhruda = friend.    Bandhu = relative.
Kaamaaturaanaam = Kaam + aaturaanaam.     Kaam = sex.     Kaamaatur = a person obsessed with
excessive sexual urge.    Bhaya = fear.    Lajjaa = shame, guilt.     Vidyaaturaanaam = persons deeply involved in learning.     Sukha = comfort, pleasure.    Nidraa = sleep.    Kshudhaa = hunger.
Kshudhaaturaanaam = persons suffering from hnger.    Vapurn = Bapu +na.    Vapu = body.
Tejah = aura, good appearance of the body.

i.e.      Persons obsessed with becoming rich have no friends and relatives, and  sex-starved persons
have no fear and any feeling of guilt for their actions.  Those who are deeply involved in acquiring knowledge and learning never lead a comfortable lifestyle and sound sleep, and hungry and famished persons do not have  a well structured body and good appearance.

  4. Arthaturanam na suhrranna bandhuh:
    I feel that greedy may be called arthatura. Then it would mean that greedy do not heed good-intentioned advise of well-wishers or relatives.
