Today's Subhashita.

Uttamam svaarjitam vittasm madhyamam piturarjitam.
Adhamam bhraatruvittam cha streevittamadhamadhamam

Uttamam = best,     Svaarjitam = self acquired.     Vittam = wealth, money.    Madhyamam = moderate,
Piturarjitam = pituh +arjitam.     Pituh = father.       Arjitam = earned.      Adhamam = lowest, inferior.
Bhraatruvittam =  wealth of one's brother.     Cha = and,       Streevittamadhamaadhamam = stree +vittam +
+adhamaadhamah.     Stree = wife,  a women.     Adhamaadhamah =  lowest among all,  worst.

i.e.      The best form of wealth is the self-acquired wealth, and wealth inherited from one's father is just moderate, and that  acquired from a brother is of lowest category, whereas the wealth acquired from one's wife or a woman is of  the worst type.

(In the above Subhashita the  sources  and means of acquiring wealth have been classified into four categories and the wealth acquired through one's own wife (may be the dowry got through coercive means)  has been classified as the worst form of wealth.)

  1. Word used is "istree" Can be in form of mother sister daughter girlfriend or wife etc. Every girl has right in her father's and grandfather's property. Any father or brother who uses his daughters sister's share of wealth rather than give it to her at or later to her marriage is worst form of wealth in hands of such father or brother.
