उत्साहसम्पन्नमदीर्घसूत्रं क्रियाविधिज्ञं व्यसनेष्वसक्तं |
शूरं कृतज्ञं दृढसौहृदं च लक्ष्मी स्वयं वाञ्छति वासहेतोः ||
अर्थ - जो व्यक्ति उत्साही, शीघ्र कार्य सम्पन्न करने वाला , व्यापार मे कुशल, व्यसनों से दूर रहने वाल, शूर, कृतज्ञ तथा मित्रता निभाने वाला होता है, धन संपत्ति की अधिष्ठात्री देवी लक्ष्मी स्वयं ऐसे गुणसंपन्न
व्यक्ति के यहां निवास करने की इच्छा रखती है |

Shooram krutagyam drudhasauhrudam cha lakshmi svyam vaanchati vaasagehe.
Utsaahasampannamadeerghasootram = utsaah + sampannam + adeerghasootram. Utsaah = zeal. Sampanna = full of Adeerghasootram = prompt, not tedious. Kriyavidhigyam = expert in doing any
business. Vyasaneshvasaktm = Vyasaneshu + asaktam. Vyasaneshu = bad habits, eddiction
Ashaktam = detached from, free from. Shooram = a brave person. Krutagyam = grateful.
Drudhasauhrudam = firm in friendship. Cha = and. Lakshmi = Goddess of riches.
Svyam = of one's own accord. Vaanchati = desires, strives for. Vaasahetoh = for the purpose of living.
i.e. A person who is full of zeal, prompt , expert in doing any business, detached from vices or not addicted to any bad habits, brave, grateful in nature,and is always firm in his friendship with others, Goddess Lakshmi herself desires to live at his residence.
(Through this Subhashita the author has indirectly indicated the qualities which a person must have as a prerequisite for being rich.)
